Paulina Porizkova was born to her Swedish parents: father Jiří Pořízek and mother Anna Pořízková in Czechoslovakia.

Her parents were anti-Soviet dissidents and had fled Czechoslovakia to Sweden, to escape the 1968 Warsaw Pact invasion.

Paulina was left with her grandmother and was barred by the Czechoslovak authorities to be claimed by her parents.

Her case had become a widely publicized case in the Swedish media back in the days. The family was finally reunited after seven years with the help of Olof Palme, the former Prime Minister of Sweden.

Hence, Paulina acquired Swedish citizenship after the incident; but, sadly, her parents divorced soon after. Moreover, her father did not pay child support for Paulina and her younger brother; hence, they have been estranged since then.
