Nathan Gale was the perpetrator of the Columbus nightclub shooting, which claimed the life of Dimebag Darrell.

He wrestled at Benjamin Logan High School before transferring to Marysville High and enrolling in a vocational school at the Ohio Hi-Point Career Center, where he trained in construction and electrical work. He received his diploma in 1998.

Gale joined the United States Marine Corps in February 2002, spurred by the September 11 attacks. He served with the 2nd Marine Division at Camp Lejeune in North Carolina until November 2003, just halfway through his four-year service.

Nathan informed his mother that he had been dismissed from the Marine owing to a paranoid schizophrenia diagnosis and that he had returned with medicine, but that he denied further treatment after coming home. Marine never confirmed the reason for his discharge. 

As Gale’s behavior got increasingly unpredictable, many of his acquaintances started to detach themselves from him; once, he informed his former buddy Mark Break that God was telling him to assassinate Marilyn Manson.

He’d been pulled over several times for traffic violations and charged with criminal trespassing for skating and camping outside. Gale was living alone in a flat above an abandoned shop at the time of the incident.

Nathan Gale is dead now. He was shot dead by officer James Niggemeyer on December 8, 2004. 

The officer shot Gale three minutes after the shooting and was pronounced dead at the scene. 

Although Nathan claimed to have been taking medication for paranoid schizophrenia, the autopsy report revealed that there were no prescribed drugs in his system at the time of his death.

Following the incident, authorities discovered two handwritten messages inside his flat. According to one reader, You’ll watch things come to life. I’ll steal your life and turn it into mine. This is my life, and I’m leaving. Git me. The other one said You would witness the heavens falling. I’m going to make Pig fly. Give me some, give me some, give me some. Do it or die, do it or die.
