Matthew Shields CBS has officially canceled”Medium,” it was announced Thursday. The five-year-old paranormal thriller, which stars Patricia Arquette, will have its final episode on January 21. Glenn Gordon Caron, the series’ creator, announcedthe news on Facebook: It’s actually the second cancellation for the show, which was pulled from NBC last year.
Now, Medium creator Glenn Gordon Caron has confirmed that the drama is finished. Of the last episode, Caron wrote, “Allison Dubois will dream her last dream on Medium Friday, January 21st. In what we believe will be a series defining episode, Allison and her family will stare destiny in the eye.
The ratings for Medium have taken a real hit this season. Despite frequently winning its timeslot, the drama has averaged a 1.3 rating in the 18-49 demographic and 6.41 million viewers. CBS reduced the number of episodes to just 13 as a result.
The producers, writers completely insulted fans with the whole, ‘Joe died, wait, he’s alive, no, he actually did die’ thing! Of course, Medium is one of the few series’ that “It was just a dream sequence” would be believable, accepted. The whole finale could just as easily have been a bad dreamthat all fans shared.
Who is the creator of Medium?
It continues, “Despite inconsistent scheduling, Medium, under the creative vision of Glenn Gordon Caron, one of the most preeminent producers in television, has always performed with distinction both creatively and commercially. Multiple-award-winning actress Patricia Arquette and the cast have delivered a stellar series for five consistent seasons. The awards and ratings speak for themselves. We believe the show has a significant future and await developments.”
What neither statements say is that, according to Nikki Finke, the series was actually picked up for 13 episodes last Friday. Arquette is contracted for 22 installments (and may have to be paid for that many) and CBS wanted at least 16 because of the profits it will make in syndication.
