Biography:

Yara Martinez was born on August 31, 1979 in Puerto Rico. She grew up in Miami, Florida where she studied ballet for a decade. In 2001, she made her television debut with a small role in Sex and the City. Her first recurring role was as Ava Herrera in the TV series Vanished. She next made her big-screen debut in the movie The Hitcher. At the same time, she appeared as Annie in several episodes of The Unit.

After working in a couple of TV pilots, she got the part of Mariella Moretta in Southland. In 2012, she joined the main cast of the show Hollywood Heights as Kelly. Later, she played Theresa Lopez in The Lying Game. Martinez was also a series regular as Adriana de Portago in the web series Alpha House. She became further known for her recurring roles as Dr. Luisa Alver in Jane the Virgin and Felicia in True Detective.
