Young Thug, born Jeffery Lamar Williams on August 16, 1991, is an American rapper, singer, and songwriter.

His songs have an effect on the contemporary sound of hip-hop and trap music, making him a prominent personality of his time.  I Came from Nothing was the first of a series of independent mixtapes that Thug first released in 2011, becoming well-known for his peculiar singing technique and attire. He joined Gucci Mane’s 1017 Records in the beginning of 2013, and later that year, to much acclaim, he released his label’s first mixtape, 1017 Thug.

Young Thug gained the attention of fellow Atlanta rapper Gucci Mane after releasing the first three volumes of his mixtape series I Came from Nothing in 2011 and 2012. Gucci Mane later signed Young Thug to his label 1017 Brick Squad Records, an Asylum/Atlantic offshoot, in 2013.
