Anthony Joshua’s and the 32-year-old Smith’s boxing careers have paralleled one another. They were amateur teammates in the GB squad twelve years ago.

They frequently competed together as they progressed through professional sports, and that will happen once more on Saturday(August 20) when Smith competes on the undercard of Usyk-Joshua in an effort to get a shot at the world championship in his new division.

Smith has competed in Saudi Arabia before, just like Joshua. In actuality, Smith’s career-high point occurred in the King Abdullah Sports Centre in Jeddah, where he defeated George Groves to capture the WBA super-middleweight title in 2018.

Interestingly he comes from a family of boxers. One of his three brothers l Liam Mark Smith (age 34)  competes on the international front.

He formerly held the British and Commonwealth light-middleweight belts from 2012 and 2015, then the WBO light-middleweight title from 2015 to 2016.

Paul James Smith Jr. who happens to be smith’s older brother is a former professional boxer from the United Kingdom who competed from 2003 until 2017. Since then, he has been a commentator.

Also, former British professional boxer Stephen Francis Smith who boxed from 2008 until 2019 is his biological brother too. He competed twice in 2016 for the IBF and WBA super-featherweight world championships.
