He is most popular for his updated adaptation of the melody “Man of Constant Sorrow,” which was highlighted in the movie O Brother, Where Art Thou? He won the 2001 CMA award for best single and also a Grammy Award for Best Country Collaboration with Vocals. This was along with Pat Enright and Harley Allen, filling out the vocals for the movie’s Soggy Bottom Boys.

Altogether, he has won 14 Grammy Awards for solo and collaborative projects. As of late, he was the vocalist on Avicii’s universal hit “Hey Brother” from the album True.

Tyminski formed his own group, the Dan Tyminski Band while Alison Krauss and Union Station were on rest, inferable from Alison Krauss’s visit with Robert Plant. The band featured Ron Stewart on banjo, Tyminski on guitar, Justin Moses on fiddle and dobro, Adam Steffey on mandolin, and Barry Bales on upright bass. In June 2008, an album, named Wheels, was released on Rounder Records. Sim Daley played mandolins while Tyminski played Martin and Bourgeois guitars.

In July 2009 the Martin Guitar Company issued a D28 Dreadnought acoustic guitar in recognition of Dan’s life devoted to performing bluegrass and old-time music as part of their Custom Artist Series. The guitar, under the name of Martin D-28 Dan Tyminski Custom Edition, was issued with its own distinctive details to appeal to flatpickers. Dan’s essential guitar has been a very much worn 1946 Martin D-28 for a long time.

At the 2013 Ultra Music Festival, he premiered a new single, “Hey Brother”. It was a part of a country-electronic collaboration with Swedish producer Avicii. The song was a Top 5 hit in more than 15 countries, including Austria, Australia, Belgium, Finland, Denmark,  Germany, the Netherlands, Slovakia, New Zealand, Norway, Sweden, Switzerland, Macedonia, and the United Kingdom.
