Jani Schofield was one of the first children to be diagnosed with one of the most severe cases of childhood schizophrenia. It is a persistent, severe, and devastating mental condition characterized mostly by sensory hallucinations.

According to research, symptoms of schizophrenia usually appear in persons in their mid to late twenties.

However, the onset of schizophrenia in children younger than age 13 is extremely rare.

In the year 2009, ‘The Oprah show’ met Jani, who was just seven years old. At that time, she was suffering from childhood schizophrenia and had over 200 imaginary companions.
