Judith and her late husband Ron Edgeworth chose not to have children.
Her band sold over 50 million albums and had big singles such as “I’ll Never Find Another You,” “I Am Australian,” and “Georgie Girl.” She quit the group in 1968 to pursue a solo career, releasing a number of studio recordings.
Durham received several awards over her long career, including the Medal of the Order of Australia (OAM) for contributions to music in 1995 and the Centenary Medal in 2003.
In 2015, she was also awarded Victorian of the Year.
Australia’s prime minister, Anthony Albanese, praised Durham, calling her a “national treasure.”
“Judith Durham gave voice to a new thread of our identity and helped pave the way for a new generation of Australian artists,” he said on Twitter.
“Many will mourn her generosity, and the songs she offered to our country will never be forgotten.”
