She first met him at the premiere of his film 'Inglorious Basterds', which she attended with her sister Portia Doubleday, who had acted in another of his movies, 'Youth in Revolt'. Her initial impression of him was not bad, and he had also promised to give her a copy of her sister's film which she had not watched by then. However, taking this opportunity, he set up a couple meetings with her at the Montage Beverly Hills restaurant. Kaitlin, who had already heard 'whispers' about how he sexually harassed women, decided to meet him nevertheless because she was struggling for years in the industry and "wanted to believe he was just recognizing the talent I saw within myself." During their meal there, he offered her to come to his room to watch some footage and help him decide the appropriate ending to 'Nine'. In her article, she opened up about why she decided to go with him despite knowing what he wanted from her. Her mother, a retired film actress, still works as a playwright and producer, and also teaches acting at the Hollywood Court Theater. Kaitlin attended a musical program at the Music Academy at Hamilton High School in Los Angeles.She had a very public affair with her 'Waiting...' and 'Accepted' co-star Justin Long from 2005 to 2007. She became engaged to DJ Devin Lucien in May 2015 in Paris. The couple finally tied the knot on May 6, 2016 at the Ventana Inn & Spa in Big Sur, California, in front of 137 guests.
