Maya Hawke was born on July 8, 1998 in New York City, New York, USA. Her parents are actors Ethan Hawke and Uma Thurman. After being enrolled in an arts-oriented school, she became more interested in acting. This led her to attend Juilliard. However, she only attended for a year after being offered an acting gig.

This acting gig was the starring role of Jo March in the 2017 BBC period drama Little Women. This marked her professional acting and television debut. She generated buzz recently after it was announced that she joined the cast of the Netflix series Stranger Things for its third season.
