American pastor, musician, singer, songwriter, and record producer Montell Du’Sean Barnett Jordan was born on December 3, 1968. Jordan was the main male solo artist on Def Jam’s Def Soul imprint until he left the label in 2003. He is best known for his 1995 single “This Is How We Do It.”

Jennifer Jordan and Tracy Singley are Montell Jordan’s only siblings. The third day of December 1968 saw the birth of Montell Jordan. Los Angeles, California’s “city of angels,” is where Montell Jordan was born. It’s interesting to note that Montell Jordan came from a deeply religious household and that today, by leading a charge, he returned to those origins.

Jordan’s first single, “This Is How We Do It,” reached No. 1 in 1995 and included a sample of Slick Rick’s earlier Def Jam hit, “Children’s Story.” According to Jordan, the song “reflects what street life was like for a teenager who grew up in the neighborhood” in interviews.

On the Billboard Hot 100, the song debuted at No. 1 and remained there for seven weeks in a row. Jordan’s debut album, which sold more than a million copies, was certified platinum as a result of the single’s enormous success.
